Find A Doctor

vertical_bar What is a Pediatrician?

Pediatrician

A pediatrician is medical doctor who manages the physical, behavioral, and mental health of children from birth until age 21. Pediatricians are trained to diagnose and treat a broad range of childhood illnesses from minor health problems to serious diseases; as well as refer and screen for developmental delays and issues.

  • What is the difference between a pediatrician and a family doctor?  The biggest difference between a pediatrician and a family doctor is their medical focus. Both types of doctors have gone to medical school to become a doctor, but their specific medical focus varies between a specific adolescent focus versus a wider whole-family focus.

Obstetrician

Women need accurate, objective data to make fully informed choices about birth settings and providers. The national birth center is dedicated to ensuring public access to quality of care information specifically related to maternity care providers and institutions.

  • What is an obstetrician?  An obstetrician is a medically trained professional specializing in pregnancy, childbirth, and a woman's reproductive system. Although other doctors can deliver babies, many women see an obstetrician, sometimes called an OB/GYN who also practices as a gynecologist.
  • What is a doula?  A doula is a professional who provides physical, emotional, and informational support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They work in cooperation with fathers, family members, midwives, physicians, and nurses. A doula personalizes childbirth education information; provides guidance during the labor and birth process; suggests comfort measures appropriately; supports the husband/spouse/partner, and family members; honors the mother's desires; and maintains a comforting and respectful environment.
