School Readiness Program Assessment

What is School Readiness (SR) Program Assessment?

In 2018 the Florida Legislature passed HB 1091 that increases quality and accountability in the School Readiness program. The Division of Early Learning is leading the implementation of this legislation in partnership with local early learning coalitions.

The School Readiness (SR) Program Assessment tool is the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).  The CLASS assessment is recognized internationally for capturing the elements within a classroom that improve child outcomes.  This assessment primarily measures the quality of classroom interactions between teachers and children.  Many child care programs have already experienced this through Florida's Early Learning Performance Funding Project (ELPFP) and other quality programs.

CLASS uses research-driven insights to improve how teachers interact with children every day to cultivate supportive, structured, and engaging classroom experiences.  CLASS helps child care providers nurture children's early learning while responding to their needs.  As children enter preschool, their sense of themselves is grounded in, and dependent on, relationships.  CLASS helps preschool teachers foster a secure, supportive base for learning and exploration.
